This doesn't sound like most kids to me. My child is also 9 years old, but likes recess, but has a hard time playing with the kids he wants to play with. It's not that he doesn't like playing but he is focused on two friends he feels most comfortable with, but this year they both made other best friends which leaves him in the cold. One day he just said how no one would play with him and started crying and usually he won't even tell me about school when I ask. I asked who he tried to play with and it's the same two kids. Eventually he'll tell me if he ends up playing with other kids, but he acts like he doesn't like it because of this.
It is important to socialize but I think it's also draining for kids especially when they want to feel like they can just hang with a good friend, but then there is an obstacle. This is draining for adults and children alike. This might help in understanding why the kids mentioned in your post don't care for it. They have to go out into the "wild" and seperate and try and find someone. It's like survival of the fittest and no one is really safe. So it's probably pretty draining and easier to just go back to class where all the structure is and the kids have to either all participate or be grouped where they don't have a choice. This is just my theory... but I can remember loving recess but somehow being let down by it too- especially when I was alone and because we moved alot.. it happened alot. Hope this helps.

Thanks Naomi you always have something great to say ,appreciate,it.
Yes that why starting early to role model and teach emotions and portion size and healthy active lifestyle so crucial. So hopefully one day they grow up and know how to live well:)
Naomi, I could be tougher, I go back and forth. But I am not prepared for the up roar or fall out(lol) from Parents feeling blamed that dont even want to admit Emotions and Parenting style has anything to do with overweight children.

I think the food issue is so hard. As paretns we encourage our chidlren to eat healthily but when they are out of sight they may not necessarily choose the best option. I do agree that as parents we are educators and what is going on in their lives affects their eating to some extent. Ava, one question, do you think you can become tougher on parents and say maybe it is to do with your parenting?
